This Privacy Policy explains how Crossy ("Crossy", "we", "our") handles information when you use our crossword solver apps for iPhone, iPad, and Android, or visit this website.
TL;DR
- Crossy does not require a personal account or Apple or Google sign-in. It uses an anonymous identifier instead.
- Clues, constraints, voice recordings, and related context are sent to Crossy's servers and service providers when you use solver features.
- Audio recordings are removed from Crossy's servers after processing. Submitted solver content is normally removed within 24 hours.
- History, favorites, drafts, statistics, and settings are stored locally on your device. Submitted solver content is also transmitted as described below.
- We do not use advertising or third-party analytics SDKs. We collect limited anonymous usage information to operate and improve the service.
Information We Handle
Anonymous identity and service information
Crossy does not ask you to create a personal account or sign in with Apple or Google. We use a random identifier to provide the service, manage subscriptions and free-use limits, and protect against misuse.
When the app connects to our servers, we may receive information such as the app version, device platform, IP address, approximate country, request times, and subscription status. We do not receive your password, Apple ID, or Google account.
Solver content
When you ask Crossy to solve a clue, the app sends information needed to answer your request. Depending on the feature, this may include the clue, answer length, known letters, solver mode, follow-up instructions, voice recording, transcription, generated answers or explanations, and feedback about suggested answers.
Crossy's servers process this information and send the necessary content to OpenAI. Audio recordings are deleted from our servers after processing. Submitted clues, transcriptions, and responses are normally deleted within 24 hours.
App data on your device
Crossy stores some data locally on your device. This may include:
- Solver history, favorites, and statistics
- Drafts and pending request information
- App preferences and settings
Local data remains on your device until you clear it in Crossy or remove the app. Data that you submit to a solver feature is transmitted and processed as described in this policy.
Subscriptions and purchases
Apple or Google processes your payment. Crossy does not receive your card or bank details. RevenueCat helps us manage purchases and subscriptions and may receive the anonymous identifier, app and device information, and purchase and subscription details. The app stores and RevenueCat retain information under their own policies.
Usage and reliability information
We collect limited anonymous usage information to operate free-use limits, prevent misuse, diagnose failures, and understand how well the service performs. This may include the features used, chosen language, whether a request succeeded, and how long it took. We do not use a third-party analytics SDK in the app.
Support and website communications
If you contact us from the app or website, we receive your message and any email address you choose to provide, together with limited service and subscription context needed to help with your request. The website contact form is delivered through Web3Forms.
How We Use Information
- Provide clue solving, transcription, hints, explanations, and related app features
- Provide app access and manage free-use limits
- Verify and restore purchases and subscription access
- Protect the service, investigate failures, and prevent misuse
- Respond to support requests and improve reliability
We do not sell personal information, serve ads, use ad tracking, or use your submitted content to train our own models.
Service Providers
We disclose only the information needed for these providers to perform services for Crossy:
- OpenAI processes text and audio for solver and transcription features. OpenAI states that API data is not used to train its models by default. OpenAI may keep API content in safety logs for up to 30 days, unless longer retention is required for legal or safety reasons. See OpenAI's API data controls.
- RevenueCat manages anonymous customer identifiers, purchase validation, and subscription status. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
- Apple and Google distribute the apps and process purchases. See Apple's Privacy Policy and Google's Privacy Policy.
- Web3Forms delivers messages submitted through the website contact form. See Web3Forms' Privacy Policy.
Data Retention and Deletion
Retention depends on the type of information:
- Local history, drafts, and settings remain until you clear app data or uninstall Crossy.
- Audio recordings are removed from our servers after processing.
- Submitted solver content is normally removed within 24 hours.
- Support messages are kept as needed to respond and maintain support records.
- Limited anonymous records may be kept for longer when needed to operate free-use limits, comply with law, or protect the service from misuse.
You can use Delete Data in Crossy's settings to remove local history and drafts and request deletion of submitted solver content and feedback held by Crossy. Some limited anonymous records may remain for the reasons described above.
Deleting Crossy data does not cancel an active subscription or erase transaction records held by Apple, Google, or RevenueCat. Manage or cancel subscriptions through the store where you purchased them. You may also contact us about a privacy request through the contact page.
Children's Privacy
Crossy is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical measures, including encrypted network connections and platform-provided secure storage where appropriate. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure.
International Processing
Crossy and its service providers may process information in countries other than the one where you live. Data protection laws in those countries may differ from those in your country.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes are effective when posted to this page. Please review periodically.
